The Friench Simpson Memorial Library participates in the Interlibrary Loan program in order to provide materials to our library patrons that are not found in our collection.

Confidentiality of library users will be maintained in ILL transactions.

Borrowing

Any patron who has a valid Friench Simpson Memorial Library card and is in good standing may order materials via ILL.

The library will borrow books. Also copies from microfilm or microfiche can also be requested.  Magazines, newspaper or journal articles are generally photocopied for patrons if the patrons can provide a correct and complete citation.

Patrons can request items by filling out an ILL form available at the circulation desk.  Interlibrary loan requests can also be taken over the telephone.  Patrons must be able to provide the library with the correct spelling of author and the title of the book requested.  Also, patrons should consult the library automated catalog before making a request.

Library staff will telephone the patron when his or her request has arrived.  Patrons are expected to pick up the requested item with 7 days of notification.

Patrons may request 3 items at a time.

A one dollar ($1.00) fee is charged per request to cover the cost of postage.  The $1.00 fee is due when the ILL request is made.  Patrons are also responsible for any fees incurred in the ILL transactions such as insurance, photocopying, book charges, microfilm rental and replacement or overdue costs.

Materials requested by elementary, junior high or high school students for school projects and/or reports are exempt from the $1.00 fee.

Time required to receive requested materials can vary depending on availability of material, location of the lending library and shipping method.  Some materials may arrive in days while others may take weeks or months.  When making an ILL request, the patron should indicate if any deadline for receipt of materials.

The lending library determines the loan period, which can vary from 2 to 6 weeks. The lending library can also impose the restriction that the material lent may be used only in the borrowing library.   The Friench Simpson Memorial Library will set a return date that is three business days earlier than the due date to allow time for the item to be returned to the lending library by mail.  Patrons are urged to return materials on time to ensure that lending libraries will continue to share their resources with the Friench Simpson Memorial Library.

A renewal period, if any, is determined by the lending library.  Any patron who wishes a renewal must notify the Friench Simpson Memorial Library at least two business days before the stated due date to allow time to file a renewal request with the lending library.

The lending library will assess repair and/or replacement charges if materials are returned damaged or are lost.  These costs will be passed on to the patron who requested the material.
